Jane Eyre *****

I was recently visiting with some college roommates and we revisited a movie that we all loved back in school. It was the 1996 version of Jane Eyre. That has triggered an obsessive fascination with the story of Jane Eyre (My husband compares the fervor that I have now for the fervor I had last year for Twilight). I have read the book twice already. It is wonderful. I love, love, love it! Truly one of the best books that I have ever read. I then requested the movie from the library and I ended up with four different versions. So far I have watched two. One I love and one I loath.

This is the movie that I used to watch in college. Oh so dark and moody. Now I know it is rather short and leaves out a lot of a wonderful story, but still worth watching.

This is the newest version of Jane Eyre. It was made by BBC (the same people that did Pride and Prejudice). It is wonderful. This is what I want for Christmas! Jane and Edward have such chemistry and you can just feel the passion they have for each other. Oh I could go on and on, but just know this is the BEST!

One word can sum this up...ICK! I hated this version. Mr. Rochester is angry and domineering and not in a good way. I could not connect to either of the leads. They butchered the story line and language of the book! Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Here are some great stills from my favorite Jane Eyre. Edward Cullen may just have to move over because this Edward Rochester totally lights my fire!

Oh so tormented and yet so dashing!

UPDATE: So Derek and I attempted to find a better screen version of Jane Eyre. We watched all of the Episodes of the 1983 BBC version with Timothy Dalton. While it was the best at sticking to the details in the book, we both agreed that it lacked the passion that made the 2006 version so enjoyable. In the end it just felt really drawn out and flat. There didn't seem to be a lot chemistry between the two leads. At this point we are kind of movied out. We have our winner. In our house the 2006 version is the favorite!
